TUESDAY, OCT. 2 Downers Grove police were called to a home in the 4700 block of Stonewall Avenue around 6:48 a.m. for a burglary report. The victim told police he and his wife were woken up around 2:49 a.m. by their dog barking. They got up and turned on the exterior house lights, but didn't see anything. At 3 a.m., the dog began barking again, so the victim went downstairs to the lower level family room. He opened the door that led to the garage and noticed the garage door was open—something that didn't seem strange, since it had been accidentally left open in the past, police said. MONDAY, AUG. 20 Raymond E. Lange, 61, of the 2200 bock of Jefferson Street in Joliet, was arrested near Katrine and Wisconsin, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of cannabis, defective windshield and operating an uninsured vehicle. Thomas D. Kowalski, 51, of the 6200 block of Janes Avenue in Downers Grove, was arrested around 6:55 p.m. at Kohl's, 2920 Finley Road, Downers Grove police said. A loss prevention employee told police he was watching the floor when he saw Kowalski take a paper out of his pocket, grab a Bissell vacuum cleaner and walk out of the store. WEDNESDAY, AUG. 15 TUESDAY, AUG. 14 Robert J. Saul, 42, of the 6300 block of MacArthur in Woodridge, was arrested around 3:40 p.m. at Fry's Electronics, 3300 Finley Road, Downers Grove police said. The store's security cameras recorded Saul as he selected a Diff'rent Strokes DVD and placed his own UPC label and price tag on the packaging, police said. The value of the DVD was $21.99, while the UPC, which belonged to the DVD Human Centipede, had a value of $20.99, the report said. The DVD was purchased with the wrong UPC, and Saul was charged $20.99, police said. TUESDAY, AUG. 14 A buck knife and loose coins were stolen from a car parked overnight on the 6400 block of Woodward Avenue, Downers Grove police said. The owner said he usually locks his doors but may have forgotten. The items were worth about $65. Matthew D. Myers, 22, no address listed, was arrested around 10:06 a.m. at Caribou Coffee, 5100 Main St., police said. Police took Myers into custody on an unrelated warrant and found a small plastic bag containing a green leafy substance in his pants’ pocket, according to the report. Officers said they also found two glass pipes with a green leafy residue inside the bowl. SUNDAY, AUG. 12 Denise Marshall, 44, of the 100 block of Christine Way in Bolingbrook, was arrested around 11:05 a.m. at Toys R Us, 1540 75th St., Downers Grove police said. Store employees told police they saw Marshall put several items into her purse and leave the store without paying for them, according to the report. The items police said they found in Marshall’s purse include a Slinky, dominoes and two Leap Pads. The total value of the items was $65.13. THURSDAY, AUG. 9 A woman received a call around 1 p.m. from a man who claimed to be her grandson, Downers Grove police said. The man told the woman he needed $2,650 in cash because he had been involved in a car accident. The woman ended the conversation after the man told her to send the money, via Western Union, from Ultra Foods, 1212 75th St. She called her grandson, who said he was at work and had not gotten into an accident. Police tried to call the suspect back, but the phone number didn’t work. Joseph E. WEDNESDAY, AUG. 8 Matthew Conness, 19, of the 1800 block of Grant Street in Downers Grove, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on the 4400 block of Lee Avenue, Downers Grove police said. An officer said he saw three male teenagers in a car parked on Lee. Conness, the middle passenger, bent over and began moving something around near the floor of the car, police said. He continued to move around even after the officer said he told him to stop. Conness stopped when the officer drew a firearm, according to the report.
