December local unemployment rates fell in nine of 12 metro areas compared to the previous year, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In Downers Grove, the unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percent from 6.5 percent in December 2011 to 6.4 percent in December 2012. The jobless rate was 6.6 percent in November 2012.
