The popular Downers Grove eatery has been closed since mid-July after it lost water and electricity service.
Omega Restaurant has finally made its long-awaited return to Downers Grove. The popular eatery, located at 1300 Ogden Ave., opened its doors Monday morning, nearly eight months after unpaid bills, code violations and legal troubles forced the restaurant to close its doors. The restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. on weekends—a change from its previous 24-hour service. George Andrews, the majority owner of the Omega building, took over the restaurant in July from former owners George and James Stavropoulos, who filed for bankruptcy in May, according to court documents. Andrews and the Stavropouloses became partners in 2007, but the relationship quickly deteriorated over legal and financial issues. …

A new family restaurant has opened its doors in Downers Grove. The Baked Apple Breakfast Co., 1224 Ogden Ave., opened in mid-December in the space formerly occupied by Dimitri's Pancake House, which closed in October 2011. The restaurant is owned by George Doulas and his two sons, Angelo and Nick. The family has been in the restaurant business for three decades. Their last venture, Archway Cafe near Midway Airport, was sold in 2001. "We've been in the business forever, and were looking for a good opportunity to open something in this area," Angelo Doulas said. The popular Downers Grove eatery has been closed since mid-July after it lost water and electricity service, but it's now hiring servers and kitchen staff.
Omega Restaurant in Downers Grove could reopen in the next month or two, according to the owner. The popular eatery, located at 1300 Ogden Ave., closed in July 2012 after a series of legal issues involving unpaid utility bills and village code violations. A sign in front of the restaurant has promised its imminent return for several months, but now the reopening is closer than ever, according to co-owner Nick Christopoulos. "We're still working through some things, getting everything up to code and making sure we're ready, but we're hoping to open in the next month or so," Christopoulos said Thursday. In anticipation of its opening, Omega is currently hiring new servers and kitchen staff. "We're accepting applications right now," …

The Baked Apple Breakfast Co. will open next month at 1224 Ogden Ave., just a few doors down from the recently shuttered Omega Restaurant.
A new breakfast cafe is set to open next month in Downers Grove, just doors away from the recently shuttered Omega Restaurant. The Baked Apple Breakfast Co., 1224 Ogden Ave., will take over the space formerly occupied by Dimitri's Pancake House, which closed last October. Owner George Doulas said he and his two sons, Angelo and Nick, hope to finish remodeling the restaurant in the next few weeks. "We should be open by mid-to late-September," George Doulas said. The family has been in the restaurant business for three decades. Their last venture, Archway Cafe near Midway Airport, was sold in 2001. George Doulas said he knew Dimitri's owner Pete Chrysanthopoulos for years before he died last fall. When the restaurant closed, Doulas thought …

Owners of the restaurant and building did not appear in court earlier this week.
A summons ordering Omega Restaurant owner James Stavropoulos and building owner George Andrews to court Oct. 15 has been served after the two men failed to appear Monday in DuPage County Court for a hearing about Downers Grove ordinance violations. Village spokesman Doug Kozlowski said the restaurant owner could face fines anywhere from $75 to $750, depending how a DuPage County Circuit Court judge rules. The restaurant, 1300 Ogden, has been closed since mid-July after it lost water and electricity service. The village turned off water service July 17 after Omega failed to pay its water bill. A shutoff occurs after a business misses several payment deadlines, Village Communication Director Doug Kozlowski said. Stavropoulos said he was …
