The next big winner could be drawn Saturday.
The big red Powerball rolled Wednesday night bringing the jackpot to $320 million for the Saturday, March 23 drawing. The winning numbers from Wednesday’s drawing were: 13 - 14 - 17 - 43 - 54 and the Powerball was 15. While no one won Wednesday night’s jackpot, over 68,000 Illinoisans won prizes ranging from $10,000 to $4, according to Illinois Lottery officials. Since Illinois introduced this multi-state lottery game, Powerball has contributed an estimated $120 million to the Illinois Common School Fund and Capital Projects Fund. By now, it's widely known that the winning Powerball tickets from Wednesday's $550 million drawing were sold in Arizona and Missouri. Those winning tickets matched all five numbers and the Powerball number. Each winner will receive about $293.7 million. However, right here in Illinois, two ticket holders matched all five numbers as well (not the Powerball number) and will receive $1 million each. Those tickets were sold at Casey's General Store in Fairmont and Barts Supermarket in Flanagan, according to the Illinois Lottery results page. The winning numbers are 5, 23, 16, 22, 29, 6. The Powerball lottery drawing took place Wednesday night at 9:59 p.m. Central Time. And, millions of people around the country were waiting to see if they hit it big and could quit their job and buy their own personal island along with cars, homes and anything else $580 million might buy. ABC News reported lottery officials expected to sell more than 105,000 tickets every minute before the drawing. Despite the long odds for the big jackpot, the overall odds of winning a prize are considerably better at 1 in 55.
