Delta Development is hosting a town hall meeting Thursday night to discuss a possible sheltered care facility for seniors at 4200 Lacey Road—three months after withdrawing a similar proposal for 63rd Street.
A local developer is making its fourth attempt to build a supportive living facility in Downers Grove. Representatives from Delta Development will hold a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss their proposal to build a sheltered care facility for seniors on a wooded lot at 4200 Lacey Road, just north of Ogden Avenue near Interstates 88 and 355. A flyer for the meeting states that Delta is looking for feedback from neighbors on various aspects of the facility. As of Tuesday, Delta has submitted only a partially-completed application for the project, according to Doug Kozlowski, communications director for the village of Downers Grove. Significant traffic delays are expected in the area Monday and Tuesday as work continues on the Washington Street water main/road work project.
Construction at Washington and Curtiss streets near downtown Downers Grove is expected to cause significant traffic delays Monday and Tuesday. Washington Street will be closed at the Curtiss Street intersection April 29-30 as work continues on water main and road improvements, officials said. The road will be reopened each evening once construction ends for the day. Detour plans for Washington Street will allow westbound traffic on Curtiss Street to make a right turn only at Washington. Two Downers Grove businesses were cited with liquor violations last month after serving beer to an undercover teen within the same hour, authorities said. On March 13, officers caught Gong Ho Restaurant, 1338 75th St., and Playa del Sol Mexican Restaurant, 500 75th St., selling beer to a 17-year-old acting as a special agent for the Downers Grove Police Department. Representatives from both businesses admitted to serving the minor while appearing before the Downers Grove Liquor Commission on April 4 for separate disciplinary hearings. More than 1,000 Downers Grove homes and businesses flooded during the torrential rains that slammed the Chicago area last week, according to a report published Tuesday by village staff. The storms, which began April 17 and continued through the morning April 18, brought more than 7 inches of rain to some parts of DuPage County, and caused widespread flooding to roadways, residential homes and businesses. In Downers Grove, the impact was immediate. The village's storm sewer system reached capacity at approximately 3:30 a.m. April 18, when the National Weather Service reported the heaviest rains. The village of Downers Grove and Republic Services will offer a special refuse collection in light of the severe flooding that hit the Chicago area Thursday. Republic Services will collect storm-related household debris from April 22-26. All refuse must be at the curb on residents' regular pickup days. No stickers are required. Carpet must be cut and bundled into rolls no longer than 4 feet in length and 50 pounds in weight. Republic will not accept single items greater than 50 pounds, white goods (appliances), electronics, or household hazardous waste, paints, chemicals or liquids.
