Downers Grove Vets Lead Memorial Day Observances

Alexander Bradley Burns American Legion Post No. 80 will lead Downers Grove residents in a day of remembrance, including Memorial Day ceremonies at local cemeteries and the annual parade on Monday, May 26.

Breakfast and Post Everlasting

• 6:45-7:45 a.m. --  “Breakfast at the Post,” at the American Legion Hall, 4000 Saratoga Ave.

• 8 a.m. - Memorial Service and Post Everlasting, in front of Post 80.

Honor Guard and Salute to Fallen Veterans

• 8:30 a.m. - St. Bernard’s Cemetery (Hobson Road)

• 8:45 a.m. - West Side Cemetery (Oak Hill)

• 8:55 a.m. - Blodgett Cemetery (Oak Crest)

• 9:15 a.m. - Memorial Park (Maple Avenue)

• 9:30 a.m. - Main Street Cemetery (Downtown)

• 9:45 a.m. - Pierce Downer (Linscott Avenue)

Memorial Day Parade

• 10:45 a.m. - Parade steps off from Main Street, Railroad to Veterans Memorial Park.

• 11 a.m. - Memorial Day Ceremony, Veterans Memorial Park

• 1 p.m. - Light lunch at the post for participants.

Please also note that village offices will be closed on Monday, May 26,  in observance of Memorial Day.

Monday is also a holiday for the village garbage hauler, Republic Services. Collection will be one day later including Saturday, for those whose regular collection day is Friday.
