Downers Grove Police Search for Suspect in Attempted Armed Robbery

A Hispanic male in his teens or 20s allegedly tried to rob someone using a firearm Tuesday morning near Saratoga and Franklin streets.

Downers Grove police are searching for man suspected of an attempted armed robbery Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:24 a.m. near Saratoga and Franklin streets. The man allegedly tried to rob a person sitting in a parked car, and fled on foot before police arrived on the scene, according to Downers Grove Police Sgt. Harry Andler.

No one was injured in the incident, Andler said.

The man is described as Hispanic, between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall, skinny in stature, and in his teens or 20s, with facial hair on his chin. He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie and jogging pants with white gym shoes, Andler said.
Area schools were briefly placed on lockdown while police searched for the suspect. The lockdown was lifted at 10:05 a.m.

The police department released a composite sketch of the suspect Tuesday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing, Andler said.

Anyone with information regarding the attempted robbery or who recognizes the suspect should call 911.
