Plan Commission to Consider New Starbucks on Ogden Avenue
Also this week: Pink Heals Tour rolls into Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, and the Downers Grove Library hosts fourth annual "Rock and Read Concert."
The Downers Grove Plan Commission will consider a proposal Monday to construct a new Starbucks at the southwest corner of Ogden Avenue and Prince Street.
Developers are seeking approval to open the store at 1149 Ogden Ave., a vacant 15,642-square-foot property that formerly housed a dry cleaning business. The petitioner is proposing to construct a new, 1,800-square-foot Starbucks with a drive-thru lane and a parking lot, according to village documents.
The proposed shop would be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
There are currently two other Starbucks locations in Downers Grove, one at 5002 Main St. and another at 76 Ogden Ave.
Village staff put forth a positive recommendation to the Downers Grove Plan Commission, which will consider the proposal during its August meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. Monday at Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave..
During the meeting, the plan commission will also consider a proposal for a senior living facility on Lacey Road.

Pink Heals Tour: A parade of pink fire trucks will roll into Downers Grove on Tuesday to honor women who have been impacted by cancer. Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, 3815 Highland Ave., and Downers Grove Professional Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 3234 will host the Guardians of the Ribbon—the national Pink Heals Tour—from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the hospital's emergency department. The public is invited to take pictures with the trucks and purchase items to support the hospital's wig boutique.
Family Concert Series: The Downers Grove Park District's Family Concert Series will continue at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Memorial Pavilion in Fishel Park, located on Grove Street west of Main Street. This week's concert will feature Chicago Tribute Anthology, a seven-piece horn band dedicated to performing the music of the band Chicago.
Classic Car Show: The Summer Nights Classic Car Show will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in downtown Downers Grove. This week's show will feature trucks, military vehicles and farm tractors. Entertainment will be provided by After Ours, a band that performs acoustic covers and country songs.
Teen Music Concert: The Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St., will host its fourth annual "Rock and Read Concert" at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The show will feature performances by local teen musicians. Snack and raffle prizes will be offered for audience members. To register, visit www.dglibrary.org/calendar.html.
