Woman Accused of Having Stolen Items

Kira K. Levan, 26, of the 200 block of 41st Street, Downers Grove, was charged with possession of stolen property. Levan is accused of selling to a Westmont resale shop a $350 red rototiller that belongs to a couple on the 300 block of 39th Street, according to a police report.

The couple reported that someone entered their unlocked tool shed in their backyard and took the rototiller along with a self-propelled lawnmower and a snow blower. A police officer went to the Westmont resale shop to ask the owner if anyone had sold any of the three items in the last day or two. The owner said that Levan had sold the rototiller to him on Aug. 22 for $40. The tiller was still in the store.

The officer took a picture of the tiller and showed it to the couple. They said it was the same make and model tiller as theirs. When the officer returned to the shop, Levan herself returned carrying a large blue nylon athletic bag. The bag contained an electric chainsaw and hedge trimmer, both Craftsman brand.

The officer spoke with Levan but their entire conversation was redacted in the police report provided to the media. At one point the officer told Levan she was under arrest for possession of stolen property.

"I read Ms. Levan her Statement of Rights that she acknowledged and signed," the report said. "Ms. Levan declined to speak any further at this point."
